FANNIE MAE BOARDGAME:
GAME OF HOMES
Mortgages are complicated. So complicated, that mortgage giant Fannie Mae even had difficulty explaining them to their wide range of employees who worked beyond the nitty gritty of home financing. So what was their remedy for this? Creating a massive board game of course! It was the ultimate tool destined to not only educate their teams internally, but to be a fun and highly engaging experience unlike any other. This is my exciting art director and illustrative journey of developing a board game from scratch.
Game of Homes was a several month project in which myself and fellow Art Directors were tasked with conceiving a monopoly styled behemoth all for the first time. The concept was to master mortgages by purchasing 3D printed homes of various sizes and value and populating the board among its four distinct neighborhoods that reflect modern day US.
Working with my team, it was a back and forth process of trial and error deciding the flow and functionality of the game’s massive collection of pieces and an in-depth set of rules. Once we nailed each section’s form of operation, I was tasked with the exciting opportunity of designing and illustrating most of what you see before you.
To bring excitement to such a complex topic, the game itself had to invoke a sense of joy. A modern vector style was used to design an easy to view and child-like board game world. Surreal colors were opted instead of real world tones to captivate and transport the player into the quirky lands.
Concept to Design

Game of Homes incorporated a paper money system in order to purchase properties.
Five different bills were developed, each depicting a different style of home that went hand in hand with its worth.

The game features various cards with dozens of iterations that moved the player backwards or forwards towards progress.
